ASSIGNMENT: Composition & Design “PHOTO” VOCABULARY

Texture)

The appearing surface of an image, for example, if it appears rough, smooth, shiny.

This is work from Robert Mapplethorpe, I love a beautiful photo of nature. Additioinally, black in white, which is not something I thought would look so beautiful but he managed to capture the subtle texture of the flower, with wonderful contrast, and in black and white.

Repetition)

The repetion of a subject, it appearing more than once.

This is work from Eadweard Muybridge, I enjoy his work. It’s reptition, but it’s the advancing of a motion. So although it’s the same subject, it’s a new image each time.

Line)

Real line, actual appearing lines that guide your eyes. Implied lines, the framing of the composition where you can imagine a line.

This is work from Andre Kertesz, this photo stood out to me because of it’s direct use of lines. The subject seems to be indirectly focused on the 3 boys playing, but the use of lines is so in-your-face, I quite enjoy it.
