  1. Leaf shutters are usually fitted within a lens assembly (central shutter<\/em>), or more rarely immediately behind (behind-the-lens shutter<\/em>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Focal-plane shutters are mounted near the focal plane and move to uncover the film or sensor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. A timing mechanism determines the time a shutter remains open (exposure time, often called “shutter speed”). These were originally pneumatic (Compound shutter) or clockwork.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. A camera’s shutter is like a curtain* that opens and lets in light to start the exposure, then closes to end it.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Magnification<\/strong>. A given subject will appear more blurred if they occupy a greater fraction of your image frame.
